Drawing From Imagination? Nah, I Prefer Drawing From My Life!

Writer: Envision LinEnvision Lin

My real-life experiences serve as my inspiration for drawing. It's akin to transforming memories into art, breathing life into them through my creative expression. While imagination has its merits, I believe that drawing from my life adds a distinct richness and authenticity that deeply resonates with both me and those who connect with my art.

In this drawing process video, I merge my camping excitement and experiences into this illustrative journey, inviting you to witness my drawing process and grasp some foundational art concepts.

Ever wonder why everything appears rounded, except for the tent? Well, with the central focus on the front characters, I opted for a more squared-off tent design to introduce a touch of contrast to the scene. And remember those initially pointy trees in the sketch? They underwent a transformation, rounding out in the end to maintain the overall soft and endearing painting style.

Color, on the other hand, is a nuanced realm, guided by personal aesthetics, sensibilities, and consistent practice. Generally, adhering to three or four dominant colors in a painting tends to yield harmonious results. For instance, in my artwork, Green, Blue, Red, and Yellow emerge as the dominant hues. Excessive color usage can overwhelm the audience and blur their focus.

From this camping illustration, I've crafted postcards, stickers, and art prints. Altogether, I trust you'll find this blog insightful. Feel free to drop your queries or simply say hello in the comments section below. Your feedback means the world to me!
