How to Save a Memorial Video on an NFC Keychain

Have you ever wished that a keepsake could hold more than just a picture? Imagine tapping your phone on a portrait keychain or art print and instantly replaying a special video—like a birthday song, a wedding toast, or a heartfelt message from someone you love.

If you’ve ordered one of my handmade NFC portrait keychains, good news—the chip is already built in!

In this step-by-step guide, I’ll show you how to turn an NFC keychain into a living memory—so every time you tap, your video plays right away.

Step 1: Upload Your Video

You can’t store the video directly on the chip—it’s too big. Instead, upload it online and copy the shareable link.

  • YouTube → Best for easy viewing.

  • Google Drive/Dropbox → Make sure “Anyone with the link can view.”

Step 2: Install NFC Tools

  1. Download NFC Tools (free).

  1. Paste your video link.

Note: Copy/paste your web link WITH the https:// . Click "OK" in top right corner when you are done. Be careful not to accidentally add a space before or after the link when copy/pasting as it will cause an error.

  1. Save Your Link to the Tag

After you click OK, you’ll see your custom URL added on this page. The app will also show how much space your link uses (for example, 16 bytes). Remember, it must stay under 256 bytes.

Note: Phones can only read one link per NFC tag. If you want to share more (like multiple videos or contact info), create a free landing page and save that link instead.

Finally, tap Write and wait for the “Ready to Scan” message.

Step 3: Test it.

  • iPhone: Hold the top of your phone about 1 inch from the keychain.

  • Android: Place the back middle of your phone on the keychain.

That’s it! Now your portrait keychain isn’t just a keepsake, it’s a memory you can relive with a tap. Perfect for weddings, birthdays, or any special moment.

FAQ

Can I save the actual video file on the NFC chip?

No—NFC storage is tiny (just a few kilobytes). That’s why we store a link to the video online.

Does it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes! As long as your link is public or “anyone with the link can view.”

Do I need internet to play the video?

Yes—the video is streamed from the link you upload.
