The very first lesson!
Welcome to an exciting journey into the world of digital drawing! If you've been eager to explore the realm of digital art, then today's Procreate Beginner Tutorial 101 is tailored just for you. In this guide, we'll walk you through the essentials of getting started with Procreate, a powerful digital illustration app. With just an iPad, an Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app, you'll be on your way to creating stunning artworks in no time.
Watch the video below to dive into your first lesson of Procreate digital drawing!
Creating Your Canvas:
To begin, launch Procreate on your iPad and prepare to unleash your creativity. Tap the plus sign located in the upper right corner to initiate a new canvas. A canvas is your virtual drawing space where your artistic visions will come to life. Afterward, click on the folder icon to select the size of your canvas. Don't worry if you're unsure about the size; you can always adjust it later.

Sketching Your First Shape:
With your canvas ready, it's time to dive into your first digital drawing. Select the brush tool from the toolbar and start by drawing a simple circle at the center of your canvas. Remember, imperfections are a natural part of the creative process, and Procreate has your back – minor wobbles in your lines will be automatically corrected.

Adjusting Screen Size:
Need to change the screen size on the fly? Procreate makes it easy. A pinch gesture with two fingers will seamlessly adjust the screen size without altering the actual dimensions. That’s right, you have the flexibility to zoom in or zoom out as needed, whether you're focusing on intricate details or taking in the broader picture.

Mastering Brush Controls:
As you delve deeper into your digital artwork, becoming familiar with brush controls is essential. The buttons on the left side of the canvas are your allies here. The first button alters the brush size; a higher number equates to a thicker brush. Experiment with different sizes to find the one that suits your artistic vision.
The second button controls transparency, affecting how bold or subtle your brushstrokes appear on the canvas. While more transparency can create captivating effects, beware of inadvertently covering your entire canvas – it's all about balance.

Harnessing the Power of Layers:
Layers are a fundamental concept in digital drawing, granting you unparalleled control over your artwork. The fourth button in the upper right corner of the canvas is your gateway to layers. By selecting a layer and swiping left, you can effortlessly delete its content without disturbing the rest of your masterpiece. Layers allow for easier adjustments, experimentation, and organization within your artwork.
I'll explain more about layers in another video. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.
